Currently in the European market, it takes the same amount of electricity to power a house as it takes to charge an average electric car.

Nigeria Auto Industry
COVID has thrown the motor vehicle industry in Nigeria into a tailspin, recording the worst downturn in 15 years. As at September 2020, year to date sales stood at 6416 with only 755 units sold that month nationwide. For a country with a middle class topping 40m out of the total population of 170m this is dismal performance.
The 2013 National Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAPD)represents FGN’s boldest step at reviving the automotive industry.
The policy sought to encourage local manufacture of vehicle while phasing out the importation of used vehicles. In 2012 alone Nigeria spent $3.5 billion on used car imports. Used cars within SSA is currently worth $45 billion per year with only 5% financial penetration rate. Nigeria currently commands over 11% of the used car market in SSA.
The high tariff structure introduced by the policy on used car imports at 70% was aimed to discourage imports. An accommodative tariff of 35% was imposed on car importers who have expressed interest and met investment milestones for local assembly.
